I did this pencil drawing from the heights to the south of the Arno. It took about five hours. I became quite a tourist attraction, sitting on a rock in my Panama hat! I understood 'complimenti', and 'molto particolare' meant very detailed. I was in a study programme at the Florence Academy of Art, and this was some light relief from the academic figure drawings at the studios.
