Watchers

Burren County Clare Ireland realist landscape painting feral goat by Irish artists Fergus A Ryan

Sphinx-like rocks seem to stand guard over the Atlantic mist, while feral goats detect an intruder in their remote mountain haunt. The horizontal foreground rocks suggest a protective 'cheval de frise' barrier (as at Dún Aengus on the Aran Islands in the distant mist) and lead the viewer's eye diagonally through the larger rocks to the watchful goats.
