As this painting was being completed a 'green comet' was making its first flypast of earth for 50,000 years. Dramatic light highlights the connection between a mountain rock and its space relative, the passing comet. Had this rock seen the comet's previous visit? While the space rock travels at great speed it appears still; a mountain wheatear flies past the rock and its movement is indicated by a split-second difference in its shadow.
