Sarah reading George Eliot's Scenes of Clerical Life, a 1903 edition with a prologue by William Leask. George Eliot is one of Sarah's favourite authors, and there is a biography of Eliot on the bookshelf behind the door. Sarah gave me that chessboard years ago as a present. The painting took more than a month to complete.
